Welcome
My name is Michael and I offer mathematics tutoring for elementary and high school students. I am available for one-to-one sessions in person at my home in East Maple Ridge, as well one-to-one and group sessions online. Please see the about page for more details.
About Me
My first experience with tutoring math was in 1998, working with a class of high school math students for a year in England. After moving to Canada with my family in 1999, I began tutoring high school students in Maple Ridge. I completed a B.A. in Geography at UCFV in 2007, and then went on to take a number of education courses. I am very excited to now be tutoring math full time.
My Teaching Philosophy
I have several beliefs that impact every moment I am helping someone with math. Everyone is different. I like to learn as much as I can about the students I work with. The more I know about you and how you work, the better I am able to help you with math in a way that works for you. Everyone can be successful. If someone is struggling with a concept, then we just need to find a way of presenting it that makes sense to the individual, whether it be with stories, diagrams, manipulating objects, equations, discussion, etc etc. Usually a combination of techniques is most successful. Set the bar high, and you will be amazed at what people can achieve.
